Spiritual Direction in Daily Life
“Recall us to the great depths about us.” - Denise Levertov
Resources
The ballast, inspiration (and surprise) that can come from “the great depths about us” are what I hope can be found in the various resources below. The quick scan I call “Ever Emerging” and the handouts from my workshops center on journaling, prompts, and various invitations to grapple with vital topics from a variety of angles.
The “Recommendations” blend some of my most treasured companions on the way, filled with the solace and new perspective that wise writing and interviews can bestow. Other sites are specifically devoted to journaling, and my hope is that they will lead to times of insight, stillness, rest… and also hope, confirmation and your own ongoing, undeniable creativity. All are dedicated to you… the “emerging word” that you are.
Ever Emerging
“Ever Emerging” is a mirror of sorts, and the real “resource” is you: Our lives are always in flux, and you can use the
“Ever Emerging” page as a sort of “scan” of various areas of your life: personal, family, professional, creative, etc. to reflect on what is stirring, what is being neglected, what wants to, yes, emerge.
I do subscribe to the adage that “we write to find out what we think” and this page can be a shorthand place to go and in the words of author Parker Palmer, “Let your life speak.”
My Resources
Over the years I gave many workshops, talks and retreats on topics that, ideally, dove into the heart of some of the "evergreen," ongoing mysteries of life: How to navigate transitions, find balance, live with uncertainty. How to sense new sources of strength, navigate wilderness times, live into shifting identities or senses of home.
I am including these handouts from those talks, with the hopes that with their wide-ranging journaling prompts and quotes, they may accompany you somehow in these times of deep change, grief, and uncertainty. May there be ballast here, or a way to listen to yourself in some timely way.
Recommendations
So many good people are offering truly helpful guidance and insight. This page could have hundreds of links. They would join the ones you already use and recommend.
This will be a “short list,” curated for times of busyness and overwhelm and our current challenges… and focusing on ways to navigate change in all its guises.
And as new sites and podcasts come up, I will add them to this section.
